Steel Cut For Singapore’s MRCV
SINGAPORE: Singapore’s ST Engineering Marine has cut steel for the nation’s first Multirole Combat Vessel (MRCV) ordered by the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The company held a steel-cutting ceremony on March 8 in the presence of RSN chief RAdm Sean Wat along with a delegation from the city-state’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA).
The ceremony was a milestone for the MRCV which is targeted for a 2028 introduction into the RSN’s surface fleet as a ‘mothership’ capable of controlling unmanned assets across the air, surface and sub-surface domains.
In March 2023, ST Engineering Marine won a contract for the detailed design and construction of six MRCVs, being responsible for the procurement and integration of the platform equipment and equipment provided by the Singapore Ministry of Defence. In the same month, the DSTA signed a memorandum of understanding with Sweden’s Saab to co-develop and design the vessel. -shp/adj/dl (Pix:Republic of Singapore Navy)
