Quantum Systems Australia: Fully Autonomous UAS Specialist

QUANTUM Systems Australia specialises in developing, designing, and producing fully autonomous uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), offering a range of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) UAS that are engineered to offer the best-in-class endurance, reliability and uncompromised intelligence, while maximising range and versatility to ensure a seamless user experience. Its managing director Michael Lillehagen tells Asian Defence Journal more on the company for the Singapore Airshow 2026.

ADJ: With unmanned platforms taking over in many industries, how does Quantum Systems set itself apart in this industry?

ML: Quantum Systems differentiates itself by focusing on actionable intelligence, not just airborne platforms. Our systems are designed end-to-end, from the air vehicle and sensor payloads through to data processing, AI-enabled analytics and secure dissemination to ensure customers receive timely, decision-ready insights rather than raw data.

Quantum Systems develops and controls its technology stack in-house, allowing rapid innovation, high reliability and the ability to tailor solutions for specific mission profiles. This approach has proven particularly valuable in complex, contested or time-critical environments.

Our customers don’t just need an unmanned aerial system, they need trusted intelligence they can act on immediately. That’s why we focus on delivering integrated ISR solutions that perform when it matters most.

ADJ: Can you share how Quantum Systems has provided crucial intelligence in times of crisis, such as natural disasters?

ML: Quantum Systems platforms have been deployed globally to support disaster response, emergency management and humanitarian operations, where rapid situational awareness is critical. Our systems enable real-time mapping, damage assessment and search-and-rescue support, even in environments where infrastructure is degraded or access is limited.

The combination of long endurance, low acoustic signature and high-quality ISR payloads allows operators to safely gather intelligence without putting personnel at risk. Importantly, the same capabilities trusted by defence customers are readily adapted for civil protection and emergency response roles.

Whether it is a natural disaster or a security crisis, the requirement for fast, reliable intelligence is the same. Our systems are designed to operate in austere conditions and deliver clarity when information is scarce.

ADJ: How does Quantum Systems create better dual-use platforms for both defence and commercial sectors?

ML: Dual-use capability is a core design principle at Quantum Systems. Rather than adapting commercial drones for defence use or vice versa, our platforms are engineered from the outset to support both military and civilian missions, with scalable payloads, modular architectures and flexible software.

This approach enables defence customers to benefit from rapid commercial innovation cycles, while civil and government users gain access to robust, mission-proven technology. It also ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.

Dual-use is not a compromise, it is a strength. By designing platforms that serve both defence and commercial needs, we deliver greater capability, faster upgrades and better long-term value for customers.

ADJ: What are some of the main product highlights for Quantum Systems at the Singapore Airshow?

ML: At the Singapore Airshow, Quantum Systems will be highlighting Vector AI and Twister, two complementary ISR platforms designed for modern, multi-domain operations.

Vector AI is a field-proven fixed-wing UAS optimised for long-range, long-endurance intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It features advanced AI-enabled processing, secure communications and seamless integration with allied systems, making it ideal for defence, border security and emergency response operations across the region.

Twister is Quantum Systems’ innovative tail-sitter UAS, combining vertical take-off and landing with efficient fixed-wing flight. Its compact footprint, rapid deployment and flexibility make it well-suited for expeditionary forces, maritime operations and environments where space and logistics are constrained.

Vector AI and Twister represent the future of unmanned ISR – adaptable, intelligent and mission-ready. They reflect our commitment to delivering operational advantage across defence and civil domains, particularly here in the Asia-Pacific region.
