Taiwan Begins Constructing New Anti-Submarine Frigate
Confirmed by the Republic of China Navy (ROCN), construction of Taiwan’s second light frigate has commenced. Among the two frigate prototypes under the New Generation Light Frigate project, the first is in anti-air configuration which has been under construction since November last year. Focusing on anti-submarine warfare (ASW), the second vessel will be armed with canister missile launchers and carry a towed array sonar to conduct ASW operations.
The USD807 million deal for a total of 10 ships are slated to be completed by shipbuilder CSBC Corporation by 2026 to supplant the aging Chi Yang-class frigates. shp/adj/dl (Pix:Simon Liu, Office of the President)
