IN an increasingly volatile world where battlefield dimensions are ever-shifting, deployment of precision guided munitions as primary weapons of choice has gained growing salience. Owing to their speed, accuracy and annihilating power, such weapons are influencing contemporary battlegrounds in a decisive way. The rise of BRAHMOS as a powerful precision strike system having unparalleled attributes of supersonic speed, smart stealth, complex manoeuvrability, annihilating firepower and incredible versatility has gained increasing attention worldwide as an ace in modern kinetic warfare domain. Infused with cutting-edge technologies, the high-end tactical missile has validated its lethality to vanquish heavily guarded strategic enemy targets on the ground and in the sea.

The supersonic cruise missile has fortified India’s combat readiness at all times. The missile has been well-integrated into the Indian Armed Forces to undertake complex land warfare operations, maritime strike missions as well as conventional air combat missions from large, stand-off ranges. As the backbone of India’s deterrence posture in 21st century, BRAHMOS has transformed and elevated the nation’s military might.

BrahMos Aerospace, the joint-venture entity between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPOM, has successfully developed the mobile land-based weapon complex, ship- and shore-based weapon complex, and the advanced air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) variants of BRAHMOS. A submarine-launched variant has also been successfully tested. The weapon is capable of undertaking high-value combat missions in a network-centric environment.

With supersonic speed all throughout the flight, four times more seeker range, and nine times more kinetic energy in terminal phase vis-à-vis other widely used cruise missile systems fielded worldwide, BRAHMOS remains the world’s fastest, best and most lethal precision strike systems.

Widely known for its impeccable capabilities, BRAHMOS has proven its prowess to outwit enemy air defence systems. The advanced technologies infused in the missile are well ahead of their times. The speed, precision and sophistication with which BRAHMOS can decisively execute its combat missions while remaining stealthy and uninterceptable is unparalleled.

From 2022, supersonic BRAHMOS carved its global footprint after BrahMos Aerospace signed its first export deal to deliver shore-based anti-ship missile (SBASM) batteries to one of the friendly nations. Today, there are several friendly countries with whom dialogues are at very advanced stages for export of the weapon complex. As an agile, advanced and highly user-friendly deterrent system, BRAHMOS promises to be a deterrent force against any enemy.

The company has also received major contracts from India’s Defence Ministry in 2023 and 2024 to deliver enhanced BRAHMOS systems to the Indian Armed Forces.

To meet this growing demand both at national and global level, BrahMos Aerospace has expedited and expanded its production capacity by successfully operationalising one of its largest weapon integration and testing facilities in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in May 2025. The first batch of BRAHMOS missiles rolled out from this dedicated facility on Oct 18, 2025, giving a strategic leap to India’s capability to indigenously design and produce globally competitive military systems having cutting-edge technologies.

In the meantime, BrahMos Aerospace has moved ahead in its plan to design and develop a more advanced derivative – BRAHMOS NG (next-generation) – which has been conceptualised as a lighter and stealthier version over the existing missile system to align with future battlefield demands and needs. Featuring smart guidance, avionics, propulsion system and other ultra-modern technologies and traits, BRAHMOS-NG promises to be a pivotal inclusion in the battlefields of tomorrow.

Brahmos Aerospace is continuously engaged in R&D activities to ensure that the capabilities of its weapon system remains ahead of all its competitors to maintain the edge as the  World’s Best Cruise missile in its category.
