DESAN Shipyard was awarded a contract for the Malaysia Coast Guard’s (MCG) second Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS). The US$83.75 million contract was signed in the presence of Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution and MCG Director-General Admiral Mohd Rosli Abdullah

“The acquisition, approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan, Rolling Plan Five, reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring national maritime security remains at the highest level while enhancing enforcement capacity at sea,” Saifuddin said.

The vessel is expected to be completed in early 2028 after the Letter of Acceptance for the project was handed over on Jan 7 during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Ankara.

The first MPMS is currently under construction and reached nearly 70% completion and is about 3% ahead of schedule, or estimated 20 days with an expected delivery date in the first quarter of 2027. The 99-metre-long vessels are designed as “mother ships” for extended deployment, with helicopter landing facilities, increased crew capacity and improved endurance at sea.
