EUROATLAS and EvoLogics unveiled the first series-production GREYSHARK™ autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) at EURONAVAL 2026, marking the the transition from prototype development to industrial delivery since its debut at the 2024 edition of EURONAVAL.

Since its debut, the GREYSHARK™ has since progressed through testing to series production, with orders secured from European government customers with initial deliveries scheduled before the end of 2026.

As navies seek to expand underwater surveillance, protect critical seabed infrastructure and strengthen maritime awareness, the ability to manufacture and deliver autonomous systems at scale is becoming as important as their technical performance.

High-Performance Underwater Vehicle for Complex Missions

GREYSHARK™ is a fully autonomous underwater vehicle designed for long-duration, multi-mission operations in demanding maritime environments. With a length of approximately 6m and a flow-optimised, bio-inspired hull shape, the system combines range, manoeuvrability, and advanced sensor technology.

Designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), mine countermeasures and critical underwater infrastructure monitoring, GREYSHARK™ supports naval forces in extending underwater awareness across large and operationally demanding maritime areas.

Speed, Endurance, and Autonomous Swarm Capabilities

With a cruising speed of ten knots and the capability to reach higher speeds when required, the GREYSHARK™ ranks among the fastest AUVs in its class, enabling rapid deployment to operational areas. In its battery-powered configuration, GREYSHARK™ achieves a range of approximately 300 nautical miles at four knots, with an operational endurance of three to five days depending on the mission profile. The next step is to develop a fuel cell-powered variant designed to significantly extend operational range and endurance.

A key differentiator of GREYSHARK™ is its advanced autonomous swarm capability. Multiple vehicles can form a dynamic underwater network and communicate with each other in real time via encrypted S2C underwater acoustics. The units share reconnaissance data live and distribute operational tasks fully automatically among themselves – such as the targeted investigation of detected suspicious objects.

“The start of series production is a crucial milestone for us. I am delighted that the GREYSHARK™ will soon be used by customers in the use cases for which it was developed. The positive feedback from the industry over the past months has confirmed that we are closing an important technological gap. We offer a state-of -the-art, covert, and endurance-c apable solution for maritime reconnaissance and the effective protection of critical underwater infrastructure,” said EvoLogics Managing Director Fabian Bannasch.

EUROATLAS Managing Director Eugen Ciemnyjewski added: “The challenge in defence innovation is not only to develop advanced technology, but to translate it into operational capabilities that can be produced and delivered at scale. Moving GREYSHARK from prototype to series production in two years is an important step in that direction. Together with our partners, we are building the industrial foundation to deliver autonomous underwater systems that can support the growing operational requirements of navies and maritime security organisations.”–-shp/adj/dl (Pix:EUROATLAS)
