IDV, a Leonardo Company, highlighted advanced propulsion solutions tailored to different classes of armoured vehicles at Eurosatory 2026. The V12 engine has been developed for Main Battle Tanks while the V8 engine is intended for armoured combat support systems.

IDV has been investing heavily in new technologies and product development in recent years, demonstrating a clear and consistent commitment to innovation and long-term industrial growth. A strong strategic focus has been placed on military propulsion systems and complementary expertise, recognising it as a critical capability for modern defence platforms and, above all, as a key enabler for the next generation of combat vehicles. This targeted investment approach reflects the company’s intention to strengthen its technological autonomy while positioning itself at the forefront of future heavy combat mobility requirements.

In this context, IDV unveiled its new range of engines at Eurosatory, marking a key milestone in the company’s industrial and technological evolution. This premiere highlights IDV’s growing role in the field of military propulsion systems and underscores its clear ambition to become a reference player in power solutions specifically engineered for future combat systems. At Eurosatory 2026, IDV highlighted advanced propulsion solutions tailored to different classes of armoured vehicles.  The V12 engine has been developed for the Main Battle Tank (MBT) class of vehicles, a cornerstone of tracked combat vehicle fleets, delivering up to 1300 kW (1770 Hp) peak power and 6000 Nm maximum torque, while the V8 engine is intended for armoured combat support systems, capable of delivering up to 855 kW (1163 Hp) and 4300 Nm.

IDV’s engines are specifically conceived and engineered for the new generation of combat vehicles, addressing the extreme demands of weight, power, durability, and operational flexibility required by future battlefield scenarios. They are designed to meet the demanding requirements of heavy military vehicles, ensuring both efficiency and versatility across a wide range of mission profiles and operating conditions. They feature high alloy steel crankshafts to guarantee durability and strength under extreme loads, combined with fully electronic control systems that optimize performance, reliability, and adaptability in the field. Their design integrates advanced solutions such as a dual temperature cooling system for maximum power density, dry oil sump architecture for compact packaging, and state of the art turbochargers ensuring high responsiveness in all operating conditions. In addition, they are developed for drive by wire applications with IDV’s proprietary control system (full powerpack), offering different operating modes — Boost for peak performance, Continuous, Eco, and APU for maximum electrical power generation — while ensuring high reliability, extended service life, and a time between overhauls (TBO) exceeding 2500 hours. Together, these initiatives portray a company that is not only consolidating its existing technological strengths, but also decisively shaping the future of military mobility.

The debut of IDV’s engines at Eurosatory further reinforces this vision, positioning the company as a key contributor to the development of propulsion systems for next generation combat vehicles. Through sustained investment, specialized organizational structures, and strong engineering capabilities, IDV demonstrates its readiness to address the technological and operational challenges of future defence platforms.
