Malaysian aerospace firm Aircraft Inspection, Repair & Overhaul Depot Sdn Bhd (AIROD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with International Air Response (IAR) at the recent Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace exhibition held in Langkawi, Malaysia.

IAR has been providing emergency oil spill response services to Government, Oil & Gas Producers, Shippers and Refiners around the globe and in the last decade in Singapore and Malaysia.  Its aerial dispersant service is operated by the oldest C-130A model aircraft in the world and the C-130 is utilised due to the aerial operation requirements of low altitude and low-speed mode of flying as well as large cargo capacity.

AIROD has been supporting IAR on an ad-hoc basis for the last 10 years by providing facilities, technical personnel and ground support equipment for their subsidiary operations that originally began in Singapore and now permanently based in Johor’s Senai International Airport.

The MOU; between AIROD Sdn Bhd and IAR is the first step to formalising a Maintenance Support Agreement (MSA) between the organisations and AIROD is looking forward to provide more in depth maintenance services on the airframe as well as aircraft painting, the company said in a May 24 press release.

“AIROD has supported IAR for almost a decade and now we see that support growing as IAR looks to expand in the region to meet its customer demands”, said Maj Gen Ismail bin Ibrahim, CEO of AIROD.

Headquartered in Subang, Malaysia, AIROD provides aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services to support Royal Malaysian Air Force aircrafts.  AIROD has provided services to the US Air Force under a previous US government contract and has serviced 76 customers in 33 countries and is an authorised Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules Service Centre. AIROD is a registered US Federal Government contractor.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, International Air Response (IAR) is a global provider of specialised aerial services. Founded in 1976, the company owns, maintains, and operates a large fleet of Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft. IAR provides safe, efficient, and effective emergency and non-emergency aerial services to a wide variety of government and private sector clients around the world and is licensed to operate globally with subsidiaries in Singapore, United Kingdom, and Australia.
