He said PT PAL also signed an agreement with Sweden’s BAE Systems Bofors for the MRO activities for 40 mm and 57 mm caliber weapons systems already in service with the Indonesian Navy. This cooperation is expected to strengthen PT PAL’s technical capabilities in providing efficient and sustainable solutions to support the rejuvenation and enhancement of the strength of the Indonesian naval fleet. The signing was carried out by the CEO of PT PAL Indonesia, Kaharuddin Djenod M.Eng, together with Lena Gillstrom, President of BAE Systems Bofors.

In addition, PT PAL signed agreements related to the Scorpene Evolved submarine and frigate business enhancement with Naval Group for future prospects. PT PAL will focus on the construction of the Indonesian Navy’s two Scorpene Evolved submarines ordered in 2024 before continuing with other collaborations. Next, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iridium to prepare for a Joint Venture under an Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) arrangement. “These arrangements represent many international symbiotic relationships that are used to solidify the defence industry and generating diplomatic impact,” Wiyono added.

PT PAL’s showcased its flagship indigenous products, generating great interest from visitors. In addition to the existing products namely the Hospital Ship and Frigate, were new products such as the Combat Management System (CMS) for warships, and the unmanned autonomous submarine. “One global partner has shown interest to procure and wants to see their next testing and sea trials,” added Wiyono.

This is part of a larger vision to establish the domestic defence industrial ecosystem, beyond just the interest of a business entity. “This mission is more than for PT PAL it is about bringing domestic companies slowly away from foreign dependence, creating their own technology and human resources,” Wiyono concluded.–shp/adj/dl (Pix:PT PAL)
