INDONESIAN shipbuilders PT PAL have received a “very satisfactory” rating from the Philippine Navy (PN) for PT PAL’s completed Docking, Drydocking, Operational Readiness, and Repair (DDORR) programme for the PN’s Tarlac-class landing platform dock (LPD) BRP Tarlac. The Tarlac was built by PT PAL and has served since 2016, recently completing its maintenance and repair programme at PT PAL’s Surabaya shipyard facility in mid-2025.

According to the company, the rating was given based on a post-project evaluation involving various user units and end-users of the ship. From the evaluation, PT PAL received a score of 3.90 out of a scale of 4.00, which falls into the “Very Satisfactory” category.

Commander of the PN Naval Shipyard Captain Julius Preyes PN stated that all work was successfully completed on schedule, meeting the required technical specifications and operational standards. In addition to assessing the quality of the technical work, the Philippine Navy also commended the professionalism of PT PAL personnel, the effectiveness of project management, the implementation of quality assurance, and adherence to safety procedures during project implementation.

“Based on the completed post-implementation feedback evaluation and performance survey conducted by the relevant offices and end-users, your company’s overall performance was assessed as Very Satisfactory,” Capt Preyes said. “The project was completed within the prescribed schedule and in accordance with the required technical specifications and operational standards. Your personnel also demonstrated professionalism, technical competence, responsiveness, and adherence to safety procedures throughout the project,” Julius Preyes continued.

The evaluation results also showed improved operational readiness of BRP Tarlac after completing the DDORR program. The ship was assessed as having a higher level of reliability to support various operations, from troop and logistics transport, military operations, to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.

PT PAL Indonesia President Director, Kaharuddin Djenod added that the PN’s appreciation demonstrates the Indonesian maritime defence industry’s ability to provide comprehensive warship lifecycle support. The project’s success further strengthens PT PAL’s position as a strategic shipyard in Southeast Asia, capable of supporting the maintenance and sustainment needs of warships of friendly nations.

“The success of the BRP Tarlac project demonstrates that PT PAL is not only capable of building warships, but also ensures they remain in peak operational condition through reliable, internationally standardized maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. The trust from the Philippine Navy is proof that PT PAL’s human resources, shipyard facilities, and project management system are capable of meeting the needs of international users,” said Kaharuddin.–-shp/adj/dl (Pix:PT PAL)
