SAAB introduces Sea Giraffe Agile Multi Beam D (AMB D), the latest evolution of its Giraffe radar family, providing naval forces with enhanced 3D surveillance and tracking of air and surface targets in increasingly complex maritime environments.

Sea Giraffe AMB D can detect, track and classify aircraft, drones, missiles and crewed or uncrewed surface vessels (USV), with a range of up to 250km for air targets. It provides early warning and accurate target information to support decision-making in distributed, multi-domain operations, where reliable sensors are the foundation of operational advantage. Designed for demanding maritime environments, the radar combines advanced Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capabilities against jamming attempts, with a modular architecture that enables integration with other naval systems. Its software-defined architecture also enables continuous upgrades as operational requirements evolve.

Building on more than 70 years of radar innovation and over two decades of ongoing operational success with Sea Giraffe AMB radars, the new Sea Giraffe AMB D leverages Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar hardware with a new software architecture and modern processing capabilities to provide enhanced air surveillance performance.

Furthermore, the company also introduced the next generation of its naval 9LV Combat System, Combat Management System (CMS) and Fire Control System (FCS) with Ceros in a design built for the realities of modern naval warfare in multiple domains. By integrating sensors, weapons and command-and-control (C2) functions into a single system, 9LV provides crews with a comprehensive operational picture and supports rapid decision-making.

The next generation 9LV is designed to provide situational awareness and maintain control of the battlespace, protect their ship and contribute more effectively to allied joint operations. Built on a data-centric architecture with a standardised information model and zero-trust cyber security, 9LV enables accurate information to move securely and rapidly across the force. At the same time, its architecture separates mission-critical combat functions from flexible, cloud-native applications. This means users can confidently adopt new capabilities and mission applications as threats evolve, without compromising the integrity of the ship’s core fighting systems. The result is a robust combat system that can rapidly adapt to changing operational requirements while remaining resilient under attack. New capabilities can be introduced faster, allowing naval forces to stay ahead of emerging threats throughout the platform’s service life.

The system is scalable across platforms, from major multi-mission combatants to smaller vessels, and supports future hybrid fleet concepts involving both crewed and uncrewed systems. This enables naval forces to integrate new platforms and sensors as they emerge, extending the reach and effectiveness of the force without being constrained by legacy architectures.

Furthermore, Saab introduced Ocean Barrier, a fully integrated scalable underwater surveillance solution designed to provide persistent maritime awareness and protect critical infrastructure, coastal areas and territorial waters from underwater threats. The underwater domain has long been one of the most challenging environments to monitor and protect, and as maritime infrastructure becomes increasingly important to national security, the need for reliable underwater surveillance has never been greater.

The challenge means not only simply improving the performance of individual systems, but networking different capabilities together to create a more complete operational picture and coordinate responses more effectively. Ocean Barrier addresses this challenge by enabling operators to detect, track and analyse underwater activity across large maritime areas, helping protect coastlines, ports, offshore installations and other critical assets.Saab introduces Ocean Barrier, a fully integrated scalable underwater surveillance solution designed to provide persistent maritime awareness and protect critical infrastructure, coastal areas and territorial waters from underwater threats.

Saab’s extensive and long running leadership in underwater systems means Ocean Barrier achieves this by integrating sensors, data collection and operator capabilities into a single connected system. By converting sensor information into real-time situational awareness, it helps its operators understand what is happening below the surface and respond to potential threats with confidence.

Ocean Barrier’s offers three defensive perimeters, known individually as Detect, Prevent and Protect, which can be tailored to different operational environments while each can operate independently or as part of a larger integrated system. Ocean Barrier is therefore equally suited to protecting a single harbour, naval base or offshore installation as it is to secure extensive coastlines and national waters. The sensor-agnostic design also enables seamless integration with existing surveillance ecosystems. Ocean Barrier successfully demonstrated the ability to integrate data from diverse sensor systems and autonomously handing off tracked objects via a NATO standard protocol to the exercise’s central command system. Designed to adapt to new threats and the means to combat them, Ocean Barrier is built on a modular and cyber-secure architecture that allows users to integrate new sensors, technologies and analytical capabilities as needs evolve.

Saab’s CB90 CX

Aside from that, Saab also unveiled its new Combat Boat 90 Capability X (CB90 CX) with three optionally crewed configurations: intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defence (SHORAD). Together, these capabilities address the evolving threats of modern naval reality, enabling a more distributed, flexible, and resilient naval force.

When maritime threats become increasingly complex, navies need platforms that can detect threats earlier, share information faster and deliver effects from dispersed positions. CB90 CX expands the role of combat boats beyond troop transport, enabling them to contribute directly to surveillance, surface strike, and air defence missions. Larger than the popular existing vessel trusted in-service around the world, the new CB90 CX features increased payload capacity and comprehensively updated onboard systems, across a wider range of sea states. Designed for optionally crewed operations using Saab’s Autonomous Ocean Core, CB90 CX retains the well-regarded characteristics of its troop-carrying predecessors while enabling the integration of a broader range of capabilities.

The three initial configurations have distinct operational roles. The ISR configuration focuses on multi-domain situational awareness and uses Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar. The anti-ship warfare configuration provides over-the-horizon strike capability against surface vessels, while the SHORAD configuration uses an anti-aircraft autocannon for air defence at a time when Uncrewed Air Systems proliferate. By operating together, they provide navies with complementary capabilities that enhance their combined operational effectiveness or as part of a wider joint forces mix. CB90 CX is currently under production for Sweden as the launch customer and will co-exist alongside the existing smaller CB90 NG. CB90 serves in nine navies and operates across the world from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Americas.
