ISTANBUL: TURKIYE’S STM has cut the steel for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) first Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 (LMSB2) in Istanbul Shipyard.

The steel cutting ceremony was attended by the RMN chief, Admiral Zulhelmy Ithnain and delegations from the Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), RMN and LMSB2 Project Teams. Also in attendance were the Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye as well as STM’s general manager Ozgur Guleryuz.

Malaysia selected STM’s ADA-class corvette design for the project in a government-to-government (G2G) deal, making STM the main contractor for the project. The same class of vessels are operated by the Turkish Naval Forces and the Pakistan Navy. The ship is expected to be completed by 2027.

STM will undertake the ship design, project management (including construction management), material/system procurements, integration design and assembly, testing and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) activities, as well as the preparation of the design and ILS documents related to the Project.

The construction and outfitting of the ships will take place in Turkiye, with cutting-edge systems produced by some 50 companies, including prominent names such as ASELSAN, HAVELSAN and ROKETSAN to be integrated on the vessels.

The Malaysian Corvettes will be outfitted with advanced weapon systems, sensors, and command and control systems, allowing the RMN to perform a wide range of missions effectively.-shp/adj/dl (Pix:RMN)
