Global Component Asia and FLY-R SAS Signs MOU on UAV Development

A new partnership to develop advanced UAV solutions for the aerospace and defence markets in Malaysia and beyond has been announced by Global Component Asia and FLY-R SAS. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the recent Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2023, in the presence of senior officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Global Component Asia is a leading provider of aerospace and defence components, with a presence in Malaysia since 2011. The company offers a range of products and services, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), engineering support, supply chain management, and training, the company said in a May 24 press release.

FLY-R SAS is a renowned manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with a unique rhomboidal wing design. The company was founded in 2013 by three engineers with more than 45 years of experience in the design, flight testing and qualification of UAV systems for civil and military sectors.

The company is based on the island of La Réunion, a French overseas department located in the Indian Ocean. FLY-R SAS is developing six fully autonomous rhomboidal wing aircraft systems for specific missions and use cases, such as coastal and maritime surveillance, loitering munition, high speed target drone, and medium altitude long endurance (MALE) missions.

The MOU aims to enhance the capabilities of both companies in the Malaysian and regional markets by collaborating on joint marketing efforts, joint development of a special purpose UAV for the Malaysian and regional markets, training for application and support of UAVs, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul of equipment. The partnership will also leverage the expertise and innovation of both companies to create value-added solutions for their customers.
