KUALA LUMPUR: An AgustaWestland (Leonardo) AW139 helicopter belonging to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) crashed into the waters off Selangor’s Angsa Island while conducting rescue training.

According to a statement issued by the MMEA, the helicopter encountered an issue while airborne and needed to conduct an emergency water landing.

Both pilots along with an air crewman as well as a rescue swimmer onboard were first given assistance by nearby fishing vessels. Following that, the survivors were picked up by another MMEA search and rescue (SAR) Eurocopter (Airbus Helicopters) AS365 helicopter and flown back to Subang Maritime Air Station.

The MMEA will investigate the cause of the crash. -shp/adj/dl (Pix:Asian Defence Journal)
