KNDS France and several industries from the Indonesian domestic defence and technological industrial base (DTIB) have signed deals at Indo Defence 2025. KNDS is proud to have maintained its strong partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

The long-term partnership with Indonesia is strategic to KNDS. As such, KNDS France reiterates its full commitment to develop on a long term a stronger and sustainable industrial cooperation with Indonesia through Transfer of Technology (TOT) and Transfer of Manufacturing, especially in artillery and medium to large calibre ammunition domains contributing to Indonesian government roadmap to strengthen Indonesian Defence industry.

KNDS France announced the signing of five strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) in land defence domain with the Ministry of Defense and Indonesian industries at the exhibition. These mutually beneficial MOUs will strengthen KNDS France’s industrial partnership with Indonesia’s DTIB. Including PT PINDAD for future cooperation in the field of artillery and large caliber ammunition, all with a local production transfer and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) for collaboration regarding the equipment of Indonesian helicopters with 20mm cannons. PT SSE is also included in order to develop a counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) variant of the locally made P2-TIGER, as well as the ministry’s research and development agency (BALITBANG) to explore research and developments topics regarding land defence.

Another Letter of Intent (LOI) was also signed by Indonesia, encompassing the procurement of additional CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) artillery systems and its 155mm ammunition. It would also allow enhanced industrial cooperation between KNDS and Indonesia, with plans for the CAESAR to be produced locally. Operating 56 units of CAESARs across three battalions, Indonesia is the third largest operator of the CAESAR globally and was the first in Asia to operate it.

KNDS France is committed to strengthen its industrial partnership with Indonesian DTIB through transfer of know-how, technology and of assembly of artillery guns in Indonesia, acknowledging the strong support from both Indonesian and French defence ministries through the recent agreement signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Jakarta recently.

This proposed partnership approach, under the Indonesian-French Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) umbrella will offer mutual benefits and guarantee Indonesia a strong return on investment, an increased sovereignty, will contribute to self-sufficiency objectives, secure a high level of local content as well as high-value transfer. It will also build-up expertise and capabilities in Indonesia as well as maximise operational readiness of the systems by setting up local workshops to maintain the CAESARs.–shp/adj/dl (Pix:SGS)
