HMS PRINCE of Wales, the Royal Navy’s second Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier arrived in Singapore, becoming the first warship to ever drop anchor at the city-state’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre.

With its arrival, the carrier makes its first formal port call in the region which kicked off an eight-month deployment dubbed Operation Highmast in April. The Prince of Wales is the flagship of the carrier strike group comprising a multinational fleet of ships from Norway, Spain, Canada, New Zealand and soon to include Australia next week.

The UK CSG’s visit to Singapore reaffirms UK’s longstanding support for the Five Power Defence Arrangement (FPDA), which is now in its 54th year. The visit also coincides with 60 years of warm and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and the UK, underpinned by the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation.

The carrier is set to visit other ports in the region and participate in several joint exercises along the way, including the Australian-led Exercise Talisman Sabre and Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Exercise Bersama Lima.-shp/adj/ar (Pix:GTA)
