Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang officially began his duty at the Ministry of Defence at Jalan Padang Tembak on Jan 7. He took over the helm of the Malaysian Armed Forces’ leadership from Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin. Gen Affendi served as Chief of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) since Dec 21, 2016 prior to his latest appointment. The Sarawakian-born fighter pilot who is trained in both Western and Russian aircraft types is the second Air Force Chief of the country to be appointed to head the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), after Gen Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin.
