Hanwha Aerospace Clinches Another Chunmoo MLRS Deal With Poland
South Korean defence giant Hanwha Aerospace has announced a USD1.67 billion deal to supply Poland with another 72 units of the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).
This deal is the Polish government’s follow on plan to procure a grand total of 290 MLRS platforms, in which an earlier purchase of 218 Chunmoo launchers were made.
Signed during an official visit of a Polish delegation led by Deputy Defence Minister Pawel Bejda to South Korea, the delegation was in the country to witness a test-firing of the Chunmoo at the state-run Agency for Defense Development’s Anheung test range, southwest of Seoul. Furthermore, the delegation also reportedly visited Hyundai Rotem, Hanwha Aerospace, and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) which manufactures the K2 Main Battle Tank (MBT), K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH) and FA-50 light fighter respectively.
As many as 18 Chunmoos have reportedly been delivered to Poland since August 2023. According to reports, the contract would only enter into effect after a separate financial contract backed by the government is signed by the end of November.-shp/adj/dl (Pix:Hanwha Aerospace)
