Indonesia Buys 12 Turkish Military Drones to Boost Air Surveillance
Indonesia has bought 12 ANKA surveillance and reconnaissance drones worth US$300 million from Turkish Aerospace to be used by its military to strengthen the nation’s defences, its Defence Ministry said.
The 12 units of ANKA drones are expected to be delivered before November 2025. Indonesia will also get training, logistic support and related equipment as well as a warranty period of two years or 600 flying hours, the Aug 2 statement confirming the buy said. The 8.6m drone can fly around 30 hours at an altitude of 9,100m. The drones will be used by the Indonesian air force, army, and navy.
The procurement of the medium altitude long endurance or MALE drones aims to increase the variety, quantity and quality of Indonesia’s military systems and equipment (Alutsista) with the earlier contract signed Feb 3 with airframe maker Turkish Aerospace.
It was earlier reported on the sidelines of the recently concluded IDEF 2023 defence show that Turkish Aerospace has an agreement with Indonesia for twelve ANKA drones – six to be made in Turkiye and the rest to made locally in cooperation with aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI)
