AT DSA & NATSEC Asia 2026, Italian shipbuilders Fincantieri has offered Malaysia the Landing Platform Dock (LPD) based on the Kalaat Beni-Abbes of the Algerian Navy. Fincantieri’s latest version of the ship is an improvement of the San Giusto-class, retaining much of the most significant characteristics of the San Giusto-class.

Fincantieri is a prime candidate for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) multi-role support ship (MRSS) programme and the third batch of Littoral Mission Ships Batch 3 (LMSB3). The firm’s FCX20 new generation offshore patrol vessel (OPV) is among the range of naval vessels the company is pitching to the RMN. The RMN is in the market for two MRSS and the third batch of Littoral Mission Ships (LMS Batch 3) comprising three ships under the 13th Malaysia Plan which runs from 2026-2030.
