Global Turbine Asia Sdn Bhd’s (GTA) signed a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with Europrop International (EPI) on May 24, 2023 at the recent Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA ’23) exhibition.

The agreement inked at LIMA 2023 consolidates the expansion of GTA capabilities into the fixed wing military aircraft space, providing support for the 19 units of TP400-D6 engines being used by the Royal Malaysian Airforce (RMAF).

GTA will serve as the Authorised Maintenance Organisation for Europrop International (EPI), the original equipment manufacturer of the TP400-D6 engine used in the A400M Atlas airlifter. The three-year contract is further testimony to Malaysia’s aspirations in the aerospace industry as it is the first of its kind for the TP400-D6 engines outside of Europe.

The agreement marks a major milestone in the industry as this collaboration constitutes the first and only time EPI relies on a foreign third party to carry out maintenance activities on their engine. It allows GTA to perform Level 1 and Level 2 (on base) maintenance on TP400- D6 engines, the highest level attainable outside an OEM workshop.

With this signing, GTA takes another step towards becoming a regional centre of excellence for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and further accelerates the nation’s industrial growth. More importantly, this underpin the growing confidence in Malaysia as a major aerospace industry player with GTA proud to champion the cause.

GTA spokesperson and Chief Executive Officer, Eduardo Jimenez said, “After the long awaited return of LIMA to the international scene, we are delighted to able to grace one of the largest maritime and aerospace exhibitions in the world with this landmark announcement. The partnership with EPI strengthens the foundation that GTA has been building towards becoming a homegrown Malaysian solution to the maintenance of state-of-the-art turboprop engines, with the medium-term ambition to also be a key player in the region. GTA’s aspiration is in direct support of the Malaysian Aerospace Blueprint 2030, which contains the shared aspiration of the Malaysian aerospace industry stakeholders towards ensuring continued growth of the industry.”–gta/adj/mhi (Pix: GTA)
